Charity of the Month: July
Mission to Seafarers
Mission to Seafarers cares for seafarers around the world.
In a recent letter the Mission’s General Secretary,
the Rev’d Bill Christianson said, “As an island nation, we depend on Seafarers for 95% of our daily food and services.
I am asking today if you and your Parish will remember the world’s 1.2million Seafarers on Sea Sunday 10th July 2011 .
The sea is our nation’s lifeline. Much of our food, fuel and nearly all the everyday items we use will have been
transported thousands of miles across seas and oceans to local supermarket shelves by Seafarers working on vast ships.
A seafarer’s life is a hard and lonely existence, making the work of the Mission to Seafarers even more important,
and, in some cases, vital in replacing the loneliness and isolation a Seafarer can face with Christian love and witness.
On behalf of the Anglican Communion, the Mission to Seafarers reaches out with a message of love to crews visiting
our Centres in 230 ports around the world.”
As well as our prayers for the continuance of their work please give a donation, using the Gift Aid Envelope if
you pay tax. Your donation should be placed in the box by the south wall. Thank you very much. For further information

Previous Charity Fundraising
Monies collected from the May charity, The Bible Society, amounted to £34.50 – to which the PCC will be adding further amounts.
1st Anniversary of the new editorial team of the Parish News
It is now a year since the present Editorial Team took on the Parish News. There have been a few hiccups, nothing major,
and they have settled into a pattern which seems to suit everyone - they hope it suits you too.
They are very grateful for the support of their advertisers and would encourage you to support them (mention seeing the
advert in the Parish News, then they will continue to advertise!). More would be great so please encourage local businesses
to place an ad - see opposite for contact details.
Your input is always welcome:
- Send in items you think may be of interest to others
- The team are considering having a Classified Section - what do you think?
- It would be good to increase readership - could you help by delivering?
The team is looking forward to an even better second year, with your help.

Fairford WI
On Wed. 1st June Kelsie Hall from The Sugar Box in Cirencester demonstrated cake making and sugar icing. She was so full
of enthusiasm and helpful hints that we were all spellbound. The first prize was won by Greta Barber, who chose the large
basket of fruit, and the decorated cake was won by Marjorie Young.
Our competition for the best decorated cup cake was won by Jean Moulden. Carol, our president then handed round boards
for names for all the various outings and the tea and Lunches we help with. The outings we can go to vary from car maintenance
at Vauxhall in Cirencester, to the Christmas Carol Concert in Cheltenham starring Only Men Aloud.
Our summer meeting on July 6th will be in the Centre at 12.30; the speaker will be Pam Slater talking on the story behind
a cup of tea.
Parish retreat 2nd to 4th September 2011
Our parish retreat is taking place at Nympsfield again this year, a delightful Cotswold village between Tetbury
and Stroud. We have been returning here for several years, as the accommodation and facilities are so good, and it
is very near to us. We leave Fairford between 4:00-5:00 on the Friday and return after lunch on Sunday. We all
have our own rooms; and the cost of all this with excellent home cooking is £96.
This will be a time of quiet reflection and consideration about our devotional lives in our busy timetables.
If you would like to join us, please let Joanne Roberts
know as soon as possible.
