The Ministry of Prayer at St Mary’s

Regular Prayer Activities

  • The Ministry of Prayer is offered in the Lady Chapel every Sunday during the 10am Eucharist Service, and during the 6pm Holy Communion with Healing Prayer, held on the last Sunday of each month.
Prayer may be for yourself or on behalf of another.
  • There is a prayer corner in the Lady Chapel with a box for prayer requests and candles to light
  • A Prayer Group meets for about 45 mins most Mondays at 6.45pm to pray together for the community (Fairford as a town and the Church Community) and also praying for the requests that have been placed in the prayer box in the Lady Chapel and Park Close Stores. Anyone is welcome to join in with this.
  • There are also several bible study /house groups taking place in Fairford. One on a Monday evening, another on a Tuesday morning, and one that Kathleen and Sarah run that meets roughly monthly. If you want to know more about these then Denise Hyde (01285 713285) is the person to talk to.

Prayer and Healing Group

This is a small group (7 people) who meet monthly to look at ways of encouraging and healing people on their spiritual journeys and to pray together.

  • They are regularly involved in the Prayer in pairs at the 10.00am service and 6.00pm Healing service on the last Sunday of each month.
  • They are also involved in the actual running of the Healing Service, leading, reading, intercessions, chalice.
  • They manage the prayer corner in the Lady Chapel - the prayer request box, and prayer cards for people to take away.
  • They organize events like the Lent Daily Prayer and Lent Courses and The Annual Parish Retreat

January Prayer Focus

Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a Way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43: 18/19

Just a thought
Do not dwell in the past, each new day is a gift from God. As you begin a new year rejoice in the gift of every new day. Don’t let past disappointments dwell in your heart, Jesus will walk with you wherever you are, seek him and he will be found, thank him for the precious gift of each new day.
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

We encourage you to join us in prayer whether at home or in Church for the following groups of people and areas of our town:

  • The Elderly
  • The U3A
  • Residents and staff Hyperion House
  • Pastoral Care Team
  • Primary School, Farmors School, Pupils, Staff & Governors
  • All who live in West End Gardens, Welsh Way, Saxon Way, Sunhill Close, Longlands, The Garrett’s, Dynevor Terrace, Bettertons Close, The Green, Milton Place, Coronation St, Fayre Gardens

If you would like someone to pray with you in your home, please contact the Parish Office.

Prayer For The Month (January)

Angel Window 15 Loving Father, help us to pause and appreciate the gift of each new day, and to make the most of what it brings. Thank you for the many gifts and Blessings that we received from you, thank you for allowing us to offer back to you as we seek to serve you, hear our prayer as we offer it in the name of the most precious gift of all, Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN

God bless our year, giving us time for the task, peace for the pathway, wisdom for the work, love to the last.
May the peace of Jesus fill us, the love of Jesus surround us, and the presence of Jesus guard us, now and always, AMEN

You show me the path of life, in your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures for evermore
