Charity of the Month: Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust
Now in its 33rd year the Trust aims to assist those responsible for the care of places used for public
worship which belong to a Christian religious body, and to make funds available to such places of all
denominations with repairs and improvement to the fabric of the buildings and their contents, as well
as their surrounding churchyards. In addition maintaining a supportive membership whose annual
committed income from subscriptions and donations allows the Trust to have a firm basis to conduct
its affairs, an example being the Stride and Ride yearly event. During 2012 some £100.000 of income
the Trust, supporting the 28 churches in the county, was able to give grants from £300 to help with
rainwater and drainage problems to £15,000 towards the repair of the roof and spire of an important
Forest of Dean church.
Can you help in the work of the Trust with a donation? Or better still complete the Banker’s Order and
Gift Aid certificate, which allows 28p of tax to be reclaimed in every £1. The certificate is to be
found in the middle pages of literature about the Trust which is on the shelf along the south wall
of the church, or, write to Katherine Talbot, Secretary, Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust,
c/o Charles Russell, 5 Fleet Place LONDON EC4M 7RD. Tel: 020 7203 8841.

Help Madina Success
Dr Veronica Sawicki and Dr Rohit Sethi – founders and Trustees of Help Madina – came to the morning
service on Sunday, 16 June, to speak about the help provided through their charity to the people living
in the Madina area of Sierra Leone in West Africa.
At the coffee morning following the service donations from those present and payment for items
from the Bring & Buy table totalled £1,031.30, which will be added to the money placed in the
Charity of the Month wallbox in the church, and other PCC amounts.
This is an amazingly generous response and on behalf of the Trustees I thank you all for your
contributions. Special thanks to the helpers who made it all possible - especially to our musical
trio who obviously relaxed people into spending mood!
