St Mary's Bell Ringers

Bell Ringers

Is this of interest to you?
Fairford Bell Ringers are privileged to ring St Mary's Bells, on Sunday mornings, before the 10.00am Church Service, at Weddings, Funerals and on other special occasions.   Our year includes a pick and mix of social events, training days and the opportunity to visit and ring at other towers and even Cathedrals.

Bell Ringing is both a physical and mental activity. Ringers, having mastered the technique of ringing a Church Bell in time with their fellow Ringers, then learn Method Ringing.   This involves committing to memory a series of changes to the order the bells are rung in. This is mentally stimulating and can be as challenging, or as simple, as each Ringer chooses.

Fairford's heaviest bell weighs more than 16Cwt but because of 17th Century craftsmanship and design, the bells can be proficiently rung by teenagers and octogenarians alike.

If you are looking for something new to do and would like to know more about Bell Ringing before making a commitment, please contact Peter Harris (Fairford Tower Captain) 01285 712981, or pop in and see us at our weekly practice, most Friday Evenings 7.30pm to 9.00pm .... You will know if we are there!

Charity of the Month:
Army Benevolent Fund: The Soldiers’ Charity

Army Benevolent Fund: The Soldiers’ Charity

The Army Benevolent Fund gives a lifetime of support to soldiers and veterans from the British Army, and their immediate families, when they are in need. They make grants to individuals through their Regiments and Corps and support a wide range of specialist charities that sustain the British Army ‘family’, both at home and around the world.

The ABF takes pride in being responsive, making a difference at a critical point in people’s lives. They have been doing this since 1944, working with veterans of every conflict, and envisage continuing doing so for the ‘long haul’ – supporting all future generations of our soldiers and their dependants.

As St. Mary’s supports the Royal British Legion during the Remembrance month of November, we have chosen to support a complementary military charity in this preceding month of October. We hope you will give generously to support the Army and their dependents.
