Christmas Stockings

It is that time of year, nights are drawing in, children are back at school and Christmas is beginning to appear in the shops. It is also the time of year when we remember those children who are less fortunate than ourselves. Christmas stockings will again be available for you to fill for Social Services in Swindon to distribute. Christmas Stocking

Margery Youngs arranged and organised this for many years and it is in memory of her that we continue to bring a smile to many children on Christmas Day.

Bags with a name and age of a child on will be available, in Fairford Church, for you to fill from the middle of October. Please could you return them by the end of November to the blue box at the back of the Church in the south aisle.
Thank you.

Charity of the Month:
St Luke’s Healthcare for the Clergy

St Luke’s Healthcare for the Clergy

Some while ago St Mary’s Church had St Luke’s Hospital for the Clergy as a charity of the month. The Hospital has been sold and in its place St Luke’s Healthcare for the Clergy has been set up to provide all the services to meet the physical and psychological needs; to see that treatment is given and arrangements are made to see the best honorary consultant when a second medical opinion is needed.

Maintaining a healthy mind in the midst of the pressures of ministry together with problems of physical health that affect any one of us from time to time is the aim of this charity. One-off donations can be made to the charity and St Luke’s welcomes financial support from all organisations including church groups. Can you help this worthy cause? If so please place a donation in the box by the south door, and use a Gift Aid envelope if you pay tax. Many thanks for your support. There is literature on the south wall shelf and you can write to:
St Luke’s Healthcare for the Clergy Room 201, Church House, Great Smith Street, LONDON SW1P 3AZ. Tel: 020 9878 1700.
Website.

Previous Charity Fundraising

The monies collected from the south wall box for the August charity, Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust, are not to hand at the moment. The PCC will add a further amount.

Previous Charity Fundraising

When the box was emptied in church for the July charity, Mission to Seafarers, the sum counted amounted to £59.15 to which the PCC will add further amounts

Charities of the Month for 2014

The Charities Committee will shortly be deciding on the charities to be included in the Charity of the Month list for 2014 and welcomes suggestions from the congregation. The list normally includes charities both in the UK and overseas.

Proposals for charities should be sent either to the Vicar or to myself by November 20th 2013, with support information about the charity and its work.

Jo Williams, Secretary to the Charities Committee, jowil@supanet.com.

Young People's Report

Soul Survivor

From 13th to 18th August, 11 young people from across the South Cotswold Team, with a small team of leaders including our youth worker, Chris Saunders, went to Soul Survivor, Britain's premier youth festival, staged at the Royal Bath and West Showground at Shepton Mallett. Despite the almost persistent drizzle for several days, - we had bags of clothes sitting soggily in minor lakes within tents - enthusiasm was never dampened!

We ate together, sang together, laughed together and discussed at the many seminars and main meetings on offer. As leaders we were constantly surprised by the remarkable desire of the youth to discover more of the reality of God and His desire to draw us closer to a life lived for Him.

The young people encountered God in new and exciting ways and the challenge for this coming term is to absorb and consider the new ideas into our weekly study times with the hope that others too will be impassioned in faith. With thanks to those who prayed for our trip. Some are already asking if we can go again next year. The camp will be 12th - 16th August 2014 for 14-18 year olds. Anyone interested should contact me.
