Charity of the Month:
Train a Priest Fund

Train a Priest Fund

The Church Times Train-A-Priest (TAP) Fund was set up by Rosamund Essex, Editor of the Church Times, in 1952, when the number of Church of England ordinands who were married with children increased sharply. Since then the Fund has existed mainly to provide support for the dependants of married ordinands in theological college training.

More than 5933 ordinands and their families over the years have received valuable help from the Fund.

Nor is it only married ordinands who are helped. Since 1997, dioceses have been able to draw on the Fund to support unmarried ordinands, too.

Finally there is also a TAP Special Hardship Fund to which all candidates in particular financial need can apply, whether married or single or training at a College or Regional Course or Ordained Local Ministry Scheme.

As we look forward to our own Rev Helen’s ordination as a priest in July, it’s good to remember that there are many ordinands out there, faithfully following God’s call on their lives, who find themselves in financial difficulties as they train. Some would never even begin to start training to be clergy without the prospect of the fund’s financial support. Please do contribute generously to support the training of our future clergy.

Cake Sale 1 July

10am-12 noon in St Mary's grounds

Cake Sale 1 July

There is to be a home-made cake sale to include cookies/jams/chutneys etc on Saturday 1st July. There will be tea and coffee provided.

All proceeds will be for the Young People's trip to Romania this summer being organised by Chris Saunders, so please give generously.

Donations will be gratefully received - either brought along on the morning, or beforehand to either Ann, Wendy or Joanne. (Joanne is going on this years trip). We are hoping to provide a gazebo to keep the burning sun off the cakes, and also off the heads of those who wish to sit awhile and have a cuppa.

Love Fairford: 14 Sep to 1 Oct

Love Fairford

Love Fairford is a two-week ecumenical outreach project in our community, with Christians of all churches and backgrounds: Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Methodists, Congregationalists and the two community churches; coming together to witness the power and vitality of our Christian faith community. The aim is to show the love of Christ for our community and everyone within it, and to reach out to invite and welcome people to experience our worship and faith.

There will be events of worship; including a healing service, a hog roast harvest celebration & finale with a ‘big sing’ in a marquee with a band and Bishop Rachel as the speaker.

There are all kinds of other events planned too, including women’s pampering & craft evenings with speakers, a men’s breakfast with a padre from NATO’s rapid response team, events for primary aged & teenagers, plus afternoon tea for the seniors.

Love Fairford seeks funding to support these events: paying for a marquee, generator, publicity and printing.

As Fairford’s Church of England community, we would like to support this project generously and enthusiastically. Please let Rev’d Caroline know if you would like to be involved with the planning team, and do give generously!
