Charity of the Month 2:

Homeless at Christmas - cold, wet and hungry with nowhere to go you can only watch other families shopping and going to parties.  A place at CRISIS at Christmas can be the start of a whole new life and even help someone out of homelessness for good.  A Crisis at Christmas place costs just £22.29 - that is just the start – each homeless person can get help  with their problems and this may change their lives.  Crisis at Christmas begins on 22 December and lasts for nine days – will you donate the cost of a place for one person – or even more people if you can manage it?

Your donations in the box will be gratefully received. Further information write to CRISIS, 68 Commercial Street LONDON E1 6LT. Tel: 0844 251 0111.

Glos. Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride

The four of us who took part in this event would like to thank everyone who kindly sponsored us in our various efforts last September.

Geoff Hawkes took a very early bus into Cirencester where he visited the town's churches of various denominations before walking back to Fairford calling into a number of village churches on the way. He walked at least 13 miles.

Dave Mills, Mike Bottomley and I rode 50 miles on our tour which took in 27 churches. The route is still imprinted on my mind and possibly my rear!

Starting out at 9:30 we cycled to Lechlade, Southrop, Eastleach, Hatherop, Quenington (cemetery chapel and church), Coln St. Aldwyn's,Bibury, Winson, Barnsley, Ampney Crucis, Driffield, Harnhill, Ampney St. Mary, Ampney St.Peter, Poulton, Down Ampney, Meysey Hampton, Marston Meysey, Castle Eaton, Kempsford, Whelford and finally the three Fairford churches.

Thanks again to your generosity we were well rewarded as we managed between us to raise a sum of £1,025 - 80, half of which will come back to St. Mary's. Well done everyone.

Church Organ Appeal

Church Organ Appeal

At the September meeting of the PCC a resolution was passed to apply for a Faculty for the much needed repairs to the Organ.

The Organ, which was probably built by Nicholson’s of Worcester in the early 1840’s, was last repaired in 1986. It is now needing urgent work on the Great Soundboard and Re-leathering of the Bellows. The estimated cost is in the region of £40,000. We hope to start work after Easter next year and this is estimated to be six weeks.

Obviously a lot of Fund Raising is going to be needed!
