The musical instruments in the windows of Fairford Church
Window 21
High up in the south windows of the nave of St Mary’s church in Fairford is a choir of angels singing and playing medieval instruments.
The Fairford History Society is bringing these instruments to life with a talk by David Hatcher, an expert on medieval instruments and
his colleague Alan Crumpler an instrument maker.
If you want to hear how rebecs and portative organs, amongst many other instruments look and sound, come along to St Mary’s Church on
Thursday September 14th at 2.30pm.
Tickets are £5 from the St Mary’s Parish Office, phone 01285 712611 (mornings) or email .
Charity of the Month: People for You
People For You is an established and well regarded volunteer befriending and support service, aimed at the many older, isolated and vulnerable
people living in the Lechlade, Fairford, Tetbury and surrounding area of the South Cotswolds. The overall aim of the project is to reduce
isolation and is entirely supported by local volunteers who offer a free, confidential service and the only one of its kind in the area.
A volunteer visitor calling regularly each week, offering friendship and a listening ear has a positive impact on a client’s state of mind,
their sense of wellbeing and community belonging. Meaningful social interaction helps build resilience and the ability to cope with factors
that affect mental and physical health. Many of the older people supported by the project are disabled, have mobility issues, are
housebound or perhaps in the early stages of dementia.
Recruitment of volunteers takes place on a regular basis to cope with the demand for the service.

Glos Historic Churches Trust - Ride and Stride
This year's Ride and Stride event takes place on 9th September.
Participants ride (cycle or horse) or stride along a personally devised route with the aim of visiting a number of churches.
Sponsorship is obtained with proceeds being shared - half to the "base church" and half plus Gift-Aid to the GHCT who use their funds to help
projects aimed at maintaining historic churches throughout the county. In 2015 the Trust donated £2,500 to St. Mary's organ fund.
I intend to cycle to most of the churches in the South Cotswolds Team - a distance of around 35 miles and give prior warning that
I shall be seeking sponsorship.
If anyone else feels moved to participate in any was please contact me for further details and forms.

Love Fairford: 14 Sep to 1 Oct
Love Fairford is a two-week ecumenical outreach project in our community, with Christians of all churches and backgrounds: Anglicans,
Roman Catholics, Methodists, Congregationalists and the two community churches; coming together to witness the power and vitality
of our Christian faith community. The aim is to show the love of Christ for our community and everyone within it, and to reach out
to invite and welcome people to experience our worship and faith.
There will be events of worship; including a healing service, a hog roast harvest celebration & finale with a ‘big sing’ in a marquee
with a band and Bishop Rachel as the speaker.
There are all kinds of other events planned too, including women’s pampering & craft evenings with speakers, a men’s breakfast with a
padre from NATO’s rapid response team, events for primary aged & teenagers, plus afternoon tea for the seniors.
Love Fairford seeks funding to support these events: paying for a marquee, generator, publicity and printing.
As Fairford’s Church of England community, we would like to support this project generously and enthusiastically. Please let
Rev’d Caroline know if you would like to be involved with the planning team, and do give generously!
